What size cool room do I need?

Getting the size right saves money and headaches. Here's how to think about sizing a commercial cool room or freezer room for your business.

Sizing factorsPlan for growth

Start with what you store

The biggest input is how much product you hold at once — your peak stock, not your average. Think in terms of pallets, crates or shelf metres, and how often stock turns over (a business receiving daily deliveries needs less storage than one buying weekly).

Allow for access and shelving

Usable storage is always less than total floor area. You need clear aisles to move and reach stock, space for shelving on multiple walls, and room for the door swing and any trolley or pallet access. A good design maximises usable storage without cramming.

Plan for growth

It's almost always cheaper to build slightly larger now than to extend later. If you expect your volume to grow, size for where you'll be in a few years, not just today.

From 5m² to 5,000m²

We build everything from a compact 5m² walk-in to 5,000m² facilities with multiple rooms and temperature zones. The best way to size accurately is a quick site assessment — we'll look at your space, stock and workflow and recommend the right layout. See coldroom installation or get in touch.
